Getting your coins appraised...

Is it imortant to get your coins appraised?  I think so.  We all want to know the value of what we have.  On one hand you might think you have a collection that is incredible valuable and you want to confirm and quantify what you are thinking.  On the other hand, you might think that what you have is not valuable, but a again confirming and quantifying might lead to a very unexpexed outcome!
Something else to keep in mind is how this value is assessed.  There are several different ways to value a collection.  One could simply buy a current coin redbook and value coins based on retail vales.  In addition to the "Redboook", there is the "Grey Sheet" which provides wholsale, dealer to dealer prices.  Above all else, it is important to understand the actual market when placing a value on your collection. Tthe Redbook may say one thing, the grey sheet may say another, but what a person is actually willing to pay for your coins may be a different thing altogether...
