Downsizing and Clearing out "Old Stuff"...

We are consumers in America-Big time! ,We live in the greatest and wealthiest nation in the world, it's no wonder that we have so much excess at the end of our lives. Things have piled up in our closest's, the garage has boxes in the rafters and utensils hanging on the walls. Our attics are full of relics that remind us of days gone by. The shelves are full of books and we have even had to purchase extra cabinets for the collectible knick knacks that we once enjoyed buying. We ran out of space, so we even rented a small storage locker a mile down the road....Sound familiar?
We interact with a lot of different types of people, but there is a common attribute among our older clientele, they are not accumulating anymore, they are getting rid of the things they don't need or use, specifically the coins that they have saved or inherited over the years.  Piled up in a coffee can, an underware drawer, or in an old cigar box.  Most of these folks are not serious coin collectors, but rather savers of interesting older items. Coins sometimes signify a special time period in a persons life. They can bring back memories of the person who gave them those coins. Coins give insight into the past as well. Perhaps it was a small silver hoard from mom or dad.
People were generally hacked off when the U.S.. Government decided to remove silver from our everyday coinage, and people would save the silver coins out of circulation as they began to be filtered out.
Whatever the reason for having the coins, people tend to liquidate those types of things. Most of the time the coins are not family heirlooms, and their children are not very interested in a bunch of "dirt old coins". But we are! I believe that coins should be preserved and coins should have a caretaker that will enjoy them for a period of time.  As the saying goes, "One man's trash, is another man's treasure"...
