Selling a coin collection can be emotional

By David Gonzales - June 12, 2017

People experience different emotions when selling a coin collection.  I recently met a very nice lady who was selling her fathers collection.  Although her father passed away many years ago, going through her fathers collection brought many feelings to the surface.  Seeing and touching this collection that meant so much to her father became a bit overwhelming.  Looking at his handwriting on some of the coin containers, and observing how he organized his coins, and pondering why he bought one coin or another really brought this collection to life.  Most often, its not about the actual value of the coins, but rather the history of the person who collected the coins, is what can be emotionally consuming.  In the end, I counseled this client to hold onto the coins until she was completely ready to sell.
